We Don’t Police the World

In an Op-Ed piece America’s Destiny Is to Police the World the author explains how the superiority of America’s military might forces them into a position where they essentially have to police the world. They become the de facto big brother that gets called into the schoolyard fistfight to smack down the bullies. How often do we consider the fact that the Bible does not call the church to be the spiritual police of the world? In 1 Corinthians 5:9-13 Paul clarifies that in fact the sexually immoral, greedy, swindling idolaters mentioned are precisely the people we should impact with the Gospel. This was the prayer of Jesus for us all (John 17:5). Christians have become so insolated and anti-world that we’re of little good anymore. Our salt doesn’t get out of the shaker and our light can’t through the multiple layers of protection we put between us and those who need it. Only the sexually immoral, greedy, swindling idolaters that call themselves Christians are to be avoided. Ironically, many churches do the opposite. They dodge the world, and harbor sinners as long as they profess Christ.
